The Issues

In September 2006 Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory appointed Bortz as Co-Chair of GO (Growth and Opportunity) Cincinnati, a comprehensive economic growth strategy for the city with a primary focus on creating jobs, developing workforce and revitalizing city neighborhoods.

GO Cincinnati has four main goals:

1. GO CINCINNATI creates jobs. New jobs will grow Cincinnati’s economy, provide for our city’s economic security, and ensure the continued delivery of essential city services. Economic opportunity is the key to attracting and retaining current residents, as well as reducing crime.

2. GO CINCINNATI offers new opportunities to our young people to develop meaningful careers. It will provide the skills and training necessary for our current and future workforce to compete in the 21st century.

3. Cincinnati’s neighborhoods make this city a great place to live. GO CINCINNATI stimulates strategic reinvestment and growth in ALL of our neighborhoods.

4. GO CINCINNATI provides for needed improvements to streets, bridges, and sidewalks, new bike and pedestrian paths, and increased mass transit options.

The GO Cincinnati report was finished in 2008, and because of this aggressive economic development strategy, Cincinnati has been able to attract new jobs, even in the challenging economic environment. To date, Medpace, US Bank, Humana, First Group, Kendle International, and Dunnhumby USA, just to name a few, have created over 2,500 new jobs. The retention and expansion of Cincinnati icon, Greater’s Ice Cream, is the most recent success and will bring needed jobs to a brand new facility in Bond Hill. Chris continues to work closely with the mayor and city manager to continue the implementation of the plan.
